Viewer List
The viewer list is a side panel in Multichat that shows who is in your chat right now and for how long, grouped as Broadcaster → Moderators → Bots → VIPs → Viewers. People who left in the last 30 minutes are listed below in Last seen. It is available on the chat page and in the chat popout (/popout/chat), including OBS docks. The events page and the events popout have no viewer list.
The list counts logged-in chat participants. Logged-out viewers are invisible to every platform, so the number is less than or equal to your viewer count. Twitch is the only supported platform today; the settings name the supported platforms.
Turning it on
- Open the chat settings (cog in the chat header).
- On the General tab, find Viewer list and switch on Show viewer list.
- Pick the Position (left or right) and the Width (Auto or Fixed with a 200–480 px slider).
The list is off by default. Switching it on — or applying a preset with the list on — always opens the panel. After that, the panel stays the way you left it with the header button or its X.
- Without a connected supported platform the section is visible but locked, and it links to your connections.
- Without the viewer list in your plan, or without the
chat:readpermission, the section is not shown.
The header button
When the list is on, a people button sits directly left of the settings cog — in the chat header, in the input row when the header is hidden, or in the floating corner group when header and input bar are both hidden. The button is an icon only (green while the panel is shown); the count lives in the panel head.
- Green = panel shown, grey = hidden.
- A click hides or shows the panel; the X in the panel head hides it too. The choice is saved in this browser for your account: after a reload the panel stays hidden or shown, and the chat page and the chat popout in the same browser follow it. An OBS dock has its own browser storage and keeps its own choice.
- While the panel is hidden, Lumio does not follow the chat's viewers; the list refreshes as soon as you show it again.
- The hide is not part of your display settings: presets, export and import never carry it. Applying a preset or an import of the chat display, or switching the list off and on again in the settings, shows the panel again.
Reading the list
- The head shows In chat · count (people in the chat now; Last seen is not counted), when the platform list was last updated, and the search box — with two or more platforms, the platform filter sits left of it. A divider under the search separates the head from the list; only the list scrolls.
- Status notes (reconnect hint, the 5,000-entry cap) appear below the divider, above the list.
- Groups have sticky headers with counts and can be collapsed; collapsed groups are remembered.
- Inside a group names are sorted alphabetically; newcomers appear at their alphabetical place.
- Each row has two lines next to a round avatar (the initial in the user's colour until the avatar arrives): the display name, and below it how long the person has been in the chat — just arrived, here 48 min, here 1 h 52 min. People who only watch (lurkers) get a time too. When a Twitch display name uses a non-Latin script (for example こさむん), the login follows the name in grey, the same rule as in the chat.
- The times count up on their own (about every 30 seconds) and start when the person entered the chat during the current stream.
Last seen
Someone who leaves the chat moves from their group into Last seen at the bottom of the list, below Viewers. They stay there for 30 minutes, greyed out, with an eye icon and the time they were last seen — last seen 4 min ago — newest first; then they disappear. If they come back in that time, they move back to their group and their time starts again.
- Last seen is collapsible like the other groups, and the collapsed state is remembered.
- Its people are never part of the counts.
- A click still opens their user info card.
- A small speech-bubble mark means the person wrote in the last two minutes.
- Use the search box to filter by display name or login.
- With two or more supported platforms connected, a platform filter sits left of the search box: an icon button (stacked layers for All platforms, otherwise the chosen platform's icon) that opens a list of All platforms plus every connected platform. Pick one platform to show only its people — the groups, their counts, the head count and the search results follow at once. The choice is remembered; if that platform is no longer connected, the list shows all platforms again. Every row then also shows its platform icon at the end of the row (the Auto width makes room for it). With one platform there is no filter and no icons.
- The whole list follows the chat's font size (chat settings): the head (title and count, updated …, platform filter, search box), the group names and their counts, and every row — name, time icon and time, avatar, platform icon and row height — grow and shrink with it, like the chat itself.
Click a name to open the user info card — the same card as a click on a name in the chat. It also works for people who have not written anything yet. Without the chat:userinfo permission the rows are plain text.
How fast does it update?
People who write appear immediately. People who only watch appear with the next platform snapshot (every 30 s), plus Twitch's own delay — often 30 s to a few minutes. Leaving shows up just as late, so a last seen time can be a few minutes later than the moment the person actually left.
States
| What you see | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Loading animation | The list is waiting for its first snapshot. With the season look on it shows the season's icons instead of the spinner. If no platform has delivered a snapshot after 15 seconds, the empty state appears instead |
| Only people who write are listed. Reconnect Twitch once … | The Twitch connection predates the viewer-list permissions. Reconnect it once under Connections for the full list |
| Nobody in the chat right now | The platform reports an empty chat |
| 5,000 of 12,400 | Very large chats are capped at 5,000 entries; the head still shows the full count |
Width and position
- Auto fits the widest row — the longer of the name and its time line (200–320 px at the default 14 px font size; with a larger chat font the upper limit grows with it, up to 480 px). It grows during a session but never jumps on single arrivals; it fits again the next time the panel opens.
- Drag the inner edge of the panel to resize it, in any mode — no detour through the settings. The panel edge follows the pointer directly (no pixel readout while dragging; the slider in the settings shows the value). Releasing stores a fixed width (the settings slider follows). Double-click the edge to go back to Auto.
- Keyboard: focus the edge, then use the arrow keys (±8 px) and Home for Auto.
- The chat always keeps at least 420 px. The panel docks beside the chat while the chat area is at least 420 px + the panel width; otherwise it lies over the chat as a drawer. A 48 px strip of chat stays visible next to the drawer — click it or press Esc to hide the drawer. The drawer has a resize edge from 288 px chat-area width on.
- With the list on, the Open popout button on the chat page opens the popout wide enough to dock it (740 px with Auto at the default font size).
The chat page and the chat popout share the settings in the same browser. An OBS dock has its own browser storage; use presets to carry the setup over.
Presets and export
On/off, position, width, collapsed groups and the platform filter are part of the chat display settings, so presets, export and import carry them. The export dialog summarises them as e.g. Viewer list on · right · Auto. The header-button hide is never exported.
Motion
The panel slides in and out from its side, new rows fade in, leaving rows fade out. Someone who leaves fades out of their group and fades in under Last seen; the list closes the gap smoothly instead of jumping. Large batches of changes (more than 20 at once) change without animation. Under Reduced or Off — from the system setting, Animations in Lumio, or the chat's own Animations setting — everything changes instantly.
See Chatter List for how the list is built.
